Dutch kale soup
When it is really cold, kale is such a comforting choice. This hearty soup is easy to make and ideal for chilly days. As luck would have it, kale was on offer this week.
Soupora laden…

It's time again. I think it's cold enough for a nice plate of well-filled pea soup. I made a large pot (about 10 litres). Also today some cyclists came to eat some soup after a cold bike ride.

Chop everything first and get your ingredients ready.
Use a roomy pot so you can stir easily.
Keep some extra stock or water to hand.
METHOD
STEP 1
Add the pork belly, pork shoulder and pork loin steaks to a large pot with the water or stock. Simmer gently for one hour.
STEP 2
Remove the meat from the pan and let the split peas simmer in the stock for 90 minutes until they fall apart.
STEP 3
Cut the meat into small pieces. Add meat, smoked sausage, carrot, celeriac, leek, onion and celery leaves.
STEP 4
Simmer for another 30 minutes until the soup is thick. Season with lovage, salt and pepper.
STEP 5
Serve with croutons; the soup is even tastier the next day.
